Dental Veneers

Porcelain veneers, also known as dental veneers and tooth veneers, are an excellent alternative to orthodontic options such as braces and invisalign®.  Dental veneers are a thin layer of porcelain that is applied to the front of the tooth to act as a fascia. 

Dental Veneers also called Porcelain veneers are custom-designed shells that cover the front surface of your teeth to disguise uneven tooth alignment, discolored teeth, or erratic spacing between two teeth and cracks or broken tooth. 

Dental veneers are considered stronger and more esthetically pleasing than tooth bonding, a similar procedure that uses a different type of material and method of placement.  Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials.

Porcelain veneers are said to be somewhat more durable and less likely to stain than veneers made of composite. 

A) Porcelain veneers create a very life-like tooth appearance.  Plus, porcelain veneers have the natural look which most people find attractive.  The placement of dental veneers requires the “shaping” or “prepping” of all teeth being fitted with the custom-designed shells.  Once veneers are bonded into place, they are relatively strong and durable; however, care must be taken so as not to abuse veneers because the thin porcelain shells can damage or break. 

Porcelain veneers can look very natural because they are translucent.  A mold of your tooth is taken for the fabrication of the porcelain veneers that are constructed for each individual tooth.  Dental veneers don't cover the entire tooth the way a crown does.  Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail.

Veneers may cost between $500 to $2,000 per tooth and are not typically covered under your dental insurance plan, unless the dentist can deem the procedure is not being performed as a cosmetic enhancement. 

Veneers may be used cosmetically to resurface teeth such as to make them appear straighter and possess a more aesthetically pleasing alignment.  Veneers do have the added benefits of longevity and a proven ability to enhance the appearance of the mouth, smile, and possibly other areas of an aged face that would be better supported by properly shaped teeth.

Veneers are rarely covered by dental insurance.  Veneers often solve the person's teeth problems without much hassle.  Veneers can also be made of composite resin reinforced with quartz.  Veneers are most commonly used on the upper front teeth, but can also be used on the lower and back teeth.  Veneers are also susceptible to chipping and breaking over time.  Veneers are very popular with the Hollywood crowd.  Although veneers require a much larger commitment than teeth whitening, the results are typically well worth it.  In addition to being esthetically pleasing, dental veneers can also serve a functional purpose by protecting the surface of a damaged tooth.
